DIMITRIS KANELLOPOULOS received the Diploma, M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Patras, Greece. He is a member of the Educational Software Development Laboratory (ESD Lab) in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Patras. Since 1990, he has been a research assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Patras. He has been involved in several EU R&D projects, including the European Projects Erasmus+ “Open Data City Officer – OpenDCO”, "Competences for Resilient Smart Cities’ Staff" (CRISIS), "SMARt COmmunities' Skills Development in Europe (SMARCO), "RACE–Project R 1086 TELEMED" and "RACE–Project R2030 APTITUDE: Advanced Platform Technologies for Underpinning a Decentralised Economy". For example, RACE Project R1086 TELEMED was a European Community-funded research initiative under the RACE program (Research and development on Advanced Communications technologies in Europe) active in the early 1990s that focused on teleradiology, digital image communication, and remote expert consultation. Also, RACE Project R2030 APTITUDE was an early 1990s initiative under the European RACE program that focused on advanced platform technologies in teleworking to support a decentralized economy.

He is an Associate Editor of the journal "Human-centric Computing and Information Sciences" and an Editor in Electronics (MDPI) and Sensors (MDPI). He serves as a Guest Editor for "Frontiers in Computer Science" and the MDPI journals Electronics, Applied Sciences, and Information. In addition, he is a Steering Committee Member of the Int. Conference on Emerging Networks and Systems Intelligence (EMERGING). He was the Technical Committee Chair of the First International Conference on Multimedia Information NEtworking and Security (MINES2009), held in Wuhan, Hubei, China, during 18-20 November 2009. He has served as a Program Committee Member (PCM) for more than 100 conferences and serves as a reviewer for various IEEE, Elsevier, and Springer journals. He has edited two books on multimedia networks and has co-authored over 100 journal articles and conference papers. According to Google Scholar, he has an H-index of 28 and an I10-index of 59.
